Congrats to Adele Gorrilla, winner of Ken
Woods Road Race and our current series
leader!

The weather on Saturday was tough, but the women who finished Ken Woods were
tougher! Congrats to all our fierce finishers! Above is race winner Adele Gorrilla and
2nd place finisher Nicole Waxmonski. Great job!

As our race leader, Adele will be wearing the leader's jersey in the next MWCMR
event, Gluek Road Race. See the
calendar for more information on the series -- we
hope to see you there!

Way to go, Jacki!

Jacki Carlson of Silver Cycling pulled off the win at last Saturday's Gluek Road Race.
Patti Koehler of Birchwood was second, and Adele Gorrilla maintains her lead in the
series point standings with her third place finish (and retains the jersey). 14 cat 4
women, representing 10 different teams, fought strong winds to complete this 36 mile
race. Excellent work by all!

Next up in the series is the race against the clock at Saturday's
time trial. See ya
there!

TT Wrap Up & Women's Track Night

Rachel Foran won Saturday's time trial, tying her and Adele Gorilla in the series with
79 points (the tiebreaker was broken by higher placings in 2 out of 3 races, so
Rachel will wear the leader's jersey in the next series event, the Opus Criterium).
This year's series competition is proving to be incredibly exciting!

Coming up tomorrow evening is the 5th annual Women's Track Night at the
NSC
Velodrome. This free event begins at 6:30 pm, but get there early to get set up with
a bike. Bring cycling shoes & pedals (if you need help removing your pedals, just
bring your whole bike). New riders and experienced trackies are welcome!

Opus, Cornering Clinic, and State Fair Crit

The MWCMR committee has made a final decision in regards to the TNW/OPUS race on May 20th.
We have decided to omit the OPUS race from the MWCMR series due to the inaccuracy of the
scoring for the race.  We have communicated with the officials, and because there is no
guaranteed way to get an accurate list of placings for all participants, it would be unfair to count this
race in the MWCMR points series.  The MWCMR committee sincerely apologizes for the confusion
that evolved during the race with the participation of the category 1/2/3 women and for the
incomplete scoring results due to our lack of communication with the officials.  The MWCMR
series is relatively new, and we only hope to improve the series by learning from this experience.

We have decided to add an additional race to the series to offer another opportunity for racing. The
St. Cloud Criterium on June 29th will now be part of the MWCMR 2008 Race Series. We want to
thank all of you for your patience and understanding regarding this matter, and we hope to see you
out at the future races!

Women’s Cornering Clinic

In other news, we had a great turnout for the Women's Cornering Clinic this past Saturday at the
State Fairgrounds. Almost 30 women showed up to learn how to corner safely and quickly on the
hot, humid day. Ted Free encouraged us to carry speed by pedaling through the corner as long as
possible and helped us pick the best line through a corner. We also practiced riding through the
course in a group three women wide. Thrilling.

Next Up

The State Fair Criterium Series starts tomorrow June 3nd and offers a great chance to try out
criterium racing before the MWCMR races later this summer. The women’s race is at 5:15pm. Cat
4s are scored separately and there are sweet prizes. More details here:

Women's Cycling Summit

Next Tuesday June 10th is the Rasmussen College Women’s Cycling Summit. This
event is a great chance to learn more about women’s cycling and what can be done
to support its growth. A bus will be available to transport people from the State
Fairground to the Summit after the women’s race.
